CHICO, Calif. — Nineteen-year-old driver Logan Seavey, from the small town of Sutter, Calif., continues to make a name for himself in the outlaw kart ranks. Seavey bested the field of 131 entries to win Tuesday night’s Kyle Larson’s Outlaw Kart Showcase presented by ParkerStore at Cycleland Speedway.
The 40-lap event got off to a wild start as both of the drivers scheduled to start on the front row encountered problems before the green flag waved. The No. 1k of Kyle Larson was set to lineup outside the front row, the kart though, would not fire off initially when it was pushed on to the racing surface. He pulled the kart to the infield where the crew found the issue and were able to get him back on track. He would have to start from the rear of the field of 29 karts.
The No. 35 of Casey Schmitz had been the fastest car all week and won every time he hit the track this week. The luck would run dry for Schmitz though as his kart stalled on the pace lap causing him to have to drop to the rear as well.
When the green flag waved again, Chase Majdic took the lead with Ryan Foster chasing.
For the first part of the race it looked like it was going to come down to Majdic and Foster battling for the win as they had amassed more than a straightaway advantage over the third place running kart. When the red flag was displayed for the scheduled fuel stop on lap 18, drama ensued. Majdic was informed by officials during the red that his kart was too loud and he would be disqualified if the crew could not get it fixed. The crew worked fast and methodically to replace the broken pipe causing the kart to be loud. They got it fixed and ready to go just in time to maintain the race lead.
When racing resumed, Foster challenged Majdic once again. Foster would look to the inside through the corners but couldn’t quite get the speed he needed down the straightaways. Majdic looked well on his way to the biggest win of his career. Logan Seavey, though, had other ideas.
Seavey was one of only a couple of drivers making the outside of the race track work as he put his Factory QRC No. 51 right up against the wall on the outside of the track to gain ground and move into third behind Majdic and Foster. He had to change up his line though if he wanted a shot at the win and he did just that. Seavey rolled the bottom of the racetrack in turn’s three and four and was able to get an excellent run down the front straightaway to steal the second spot from Foster. With the leader in his cross hairs Seavey began to roll around the bottom tracking down race leader Majdic.
With less than five laps remaining Seavey made his move. Majdic had been so strong the whole race but going down the front straightaway the car stuttered just enough for Seavey to dive to the inside and take away the top spot. Once he inherited the lead it was clear sailing for Logan Seavey as he picked up the thrilling victory by more than 2.5 seconds over second-place car.
Cyle Allison piloted his CRA Motorsports No. 62 kart to a second-place finish in the. Allison kept his nose clean all race long as he started 16th and worked his way up to the front of the field. After leading much of the feature, Majdic settled for third.
The Abreu Vineyards No. 88 kart of Tanner Thorson utilized a provisional to start last (29th) and he powered through the field to finish fourth, while Foster came home fifth.
Carson Perkins won the 250 Intermediate feature, while Preston Carr won the Box Stock main event.
